What is the ATI TEAS?

The ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) is a standardized exam designed to assess your readiness for health science programs. Many nursing and allied health programs require the TEAS as part of their admissions process because it has been proven to correlate with future academic success.

The exam includes 170 questions, with 20 unscored pretest items. It evaluates your core academic skills in four key areas: reading, math, science, and English & language usage—critical subjects for thriving in health science studies.

If your school has instructed you to register for a TEAS exam that will be proctored by their institution (either in person or remotely), follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit the Registration Page

Go to atitesting.com/teas/register.

Step 2: Select Your Exam Delivery Method

You will have four options for TEAS exam registration.  These are the two options for testing with your school:

  • TEAS Online (proctored by an institution as an at-home exam)
  • TEAS In-Person (proctored by an institution at the school or testing center)

Choose the exam method you prefer, then click Register.

Note: If you choose the online remote exam, ensure that your computer or tablet meets the system requirements before registering and paying.  Visit our article on important things to know before you register and pay for an exam for additional details.

Step 3: Choose Your Exam Date and Institution

Select the exam date and institution from the available options provided by your institution. Pick a date that works for you, and then click Select.

Step 4: Review Your Registration Details

Double-check all the information before finalizing your registration. If needed, you can also purchase additional transcript credits here. Make sure everything is accurate and read all the mandatory notices.

Note: A TEAS transcript will be automatically included with your registration and sent to the institution where you’re testing. If you’re applying to more than one school or need to send your transcript to a different institution, you’ll need to purchase additional transcripts via your TEAS account, either before or after your exam.

Step 5: Complete Your Order

After reviewing all details, complete your order and finalize your registration.

Don’t just prep to pass – prep to earn your highest score.

Passing the TEAS is a key component of getting into nursing and allied health schools, but 30% of qualified applicants are turned away from ADN, Diploma and BSN programs. Since it’s a comprehensive exam, you’ll be tested on four different subject areas, so thorough preparation is crucial. We recommend allowing at least 6 weeks of preparation prior to taking the TEAS. On a tighter schedule? Don’t worry – we have solutions that fit any timeline.
